The First Agent

R 449

Who it is for. An owner who wants one agent doing one job, on their yes, within a month. It is written for the owner; the boxes headed “For whoever sets it up” are for whoever connects the agent.

Thirty days, thirty minutes a day: from one written job to an agent you trust with it.

By day thirty you have one agent running on your yes, one action it has earned the right to do alone, a one-page review with real numbers in it, and your second job chosen.

How it works

Each day is one page: the task, what done looks like, and a box to tick. Five turning points get two pages: day 1, day 8 (the first real run), day 15 (the brief rewritten), day 22 (the first Automatic) and day 30 (the review). Missed a day? Do it tomorrow. The month is thirty tasks, not thirty dates.

Inside

  1. Week one: Ready. Name the job, find three good examples, write the never list, set the stop-and-ask rules.
  2. Week two: Watching. The first real run: every proposal read, approved, fixed or refused.
  3. Week three: Trusting. Rewrite the brief from what the agent got wrong, then check one limit on purpose.
  4. Week four: Owning. The first action moves to Automatic, then the fire drill and the one-page review.
  5. The same month, three other jobs. Review replies, booking reminders and order follow-ups.

One made-up business runs through the month: the Sample Bakery, whose agent reads the supplier inbox and drafts the week's orders. Boxes headed "For whoever sets it up" are for the person who connects the agent. Every outside fact names the page it comes from and the date it was read.

Free with it: The Owner's Toolkit (R149 on its own), the pages you fill in as you go. Add it to your cart with the book and it costs nothing.

From week one · Day 1: Name the job

Today you choose the one job this month is about, and you book the thirty minutes.

Take the job picker from the Toolkit. Write down every job you would like to hand over, then put each through the four questions: does it come round every week, is a slip cheap to undo, do you know what good looks like, and do the facts live in one tool? Pick the one with four ticks.

Write it as one sentence: “Every ___, the agent ___ for ___, using ___, and I approve ___.” Put it on the first line of the brief.

For the Sample Bakery the sentence is: “Every Thursday, the agent reads the supplier inbox and drafts orders for what is below its reorder level, and I approve each order before it goes.” The owner books 07:30 to 08:00, before the shop opens.

Done looks like: one sentence, one builder, thirty slots in the calendar.
